Amaryllis Bulb Care
Watering: Water when the top two inches of soil are dry, and allow the pot to drain. Avoid overwatering, as wet soil can cause root and bulb rot and attract pests.
Light: Place your amaryllis in a bright, indirect light location that's relatively cool (60–65°F).Once the flower buds open, move the plant out of direct sunlight.
Rotating: Rotate the pot every few days to keep the stems straight.
Repotting: Amaryllis bulbs increase in diameter over time, so you may need to repot them every three to four years.
Dormancy: In late summer, move the potted bulb to a cool, dark, dry location and stop watering it.The leaves will wither as the plant goes dormant. After 2–3 months, bring the bulb back into a warm area with bright light and water well.
Pests and diseases: Look out for spider mites and mealybugs, which can be treated with horticultural oil.Amaryllis can also be infected with red blotch or mosaic virus, but there's no treatment for either.
Deadheading: As the flowers fade, you can snip them off. Once all the flowers on a stem have faded, cut the stem back to a few inches above the bulb.
